An Interview with Mr. Slayton
Montrey Slayton is still introducing himself through his songwriting and vocal ability. His first album,
Love At First Sight was recently released (Oct. 7th) and is available for download on DatPiff.com. He continues to grow more as an artist and increasing his fan base daily. The melodic and expressive thoughts of Slayton proved himself to be an accomplished young man in his first album. He demonstrates hardworking abilities and indescribable versatile talents. Montrey is ready for the world and waiting on the world to be ready for him. I decided to ask Montrey a few in depth questions so people can understand more about what he has to offer. The singer/songwriter has just begun to explore the world so join him on his journey.

I asked Montrey:
Which gives you a greater joy, singing/performing or songwriting?
Montrey: I would say songwriting. Mainly because it can express way more than what my voice can. It has no limits as to what I can say or want to say.
Why have you chose to stop singing for awhile? Has your love for singing faded?
Montrey: I chose to stop singing for a while to focus on my songwriting. My love for singing is still there, but I feel that it's time that I go back to the drawing board and study some of my favorite artist to enhance my writing skill. I just want to get better and better.
Do you feel that Love At First Sight was a successful project?
Montrey: In my eyes, success isn't based on the numbers of downloads and views. My success is based on how I feel about my own music. I have to ask myself "Did I give my all into this project?" And the answer I say is yes. So do I feel that it's successful, YES!
What projects are you looking forward to? Anyone you would love to work with and why?
Montrey: I really don't know if anybody I rock with in Milwaukee is releasing a project anytime soon. I dig that new CMG project ATNPL and Gerald Walker's mixtape On Your Side Part 2. I would love to work with Pizzle and Kiara Dupree on something; both of them are VERY talented artist.
How do you feel you've grown since the years of singing before the studio?
Montrey: I have grown tramendously! I compare older songs to my new songs and you would hear how much better I have gotten at writing and singing.
Where do you see yourself and your music by this time next year?
Montrey: I'll leave that up to God. All I can do is continue to work hard and stay humble. It's all in His plan. I know this is what I was born to do. So rather its a year from now, or 20 years from now, I'm not gonna stop.
What can the fans expect to hear in December Sky?
Montrey: December Sky will be a short 5 to 6 track Christmas album. Its just a little something people can listen to during the holidays when they putting up decorations, trimming the tree and drinking eggnog. I love the holidays! Hopefully, through music I can make someone feel as happy as I do during this time of year.
Any upcoming performances?
Montrey: Yes, I have a performance on Nov. 1st at Fire on Water and I have a performance on Nov. 2nd at One Sports Lounge. And also people can catch me at Nostalgia 2 on Wednesdays with the band.
Is there anything you would like the world to know about you that they do not already know?
Montrey: I'm pretty much an open book. People probably don't know that I LOVE to cook. I think I'm a chef sometimes.
After hearing Slayton's views and opinions, it gives his audience a clearer understanding of who he is. He humbly gives thanks for his talented gifts and appreciates others. He is human and wants to receive love, similarly to the rest of the world. Knowing your gifts, perfecting them, then sharing those gifts is only part one. Time can only tell how far Slayton's music can go. The sky cannot be the limit if there are footprints on the moon. Dreams of hope are all a person may have and putting them is to work is powerful.
